Community Foundation Announces Two Free Seminars for Nonprofits
The Outer Banks Community Foundation will be offering two free seminars for nonprofits on Tuesday, March 8 at the UNC Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese.
Online registration is now closed, for the morning session on volunteer engagement, and/or the afternoon session on great practices of effective boards.
“We are excited to bring Jeanne Allen back to the Outer Banks to teach these two seminars!” said Lorelei Costa, Executive Director of the Community Foundation.
“Jeanne led a fantastic course for us last year on strategic planning, and she just got rave reviews from the nonprofit folks who attended. So we knew we had to bring her back to teach some other popular topics.”
The workshop on volunteer engagement will run from 9:00 am until noon, and it is especially relevant for Outer Banks nonprofits. Every charity and church on the beach relies on volunteers for support, expertise, and labor. In this class, Jeanne will share practical strategies on how to recruit volunteers for your group — and keep them coming back! Jeanne will discuss all the factors that motivate volunteers, and how to incorporate these factors into a program that attracts and retains great people.
The afternoon session will run from 1:00 until 4:00 pm and will focus on best practices of nonprofit boards. Specifically, the seminar will highlight board responsibilities, and strategies to increase meaningful board engagement. This session is open not only to current nonprofit board members, but also to staff and future/prospective board members as well.
“We invite any volunteer, staff, or board member of any nonprofit serving the Outer Banks to attend these free workshops,” said Lorelei. “You can sign up for one, or the other, or both! However, space is limited, so we do need your advance registration.”
The registration deadline was been extended to Friday, March 4, however, is now closed. A boxed lunch may be reserved for $10 for the one-hour break between sessions, or participants may choose to bring their own, or go off-site for lunch.
Jeanne Allen is a BoardSource Certified Governance Trainer with 30 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Having worked for a variety of local and national nonprofits, including Girl Scouts USA, Susan G. Komen of NC, and Clean Energy Durham, she is an instructor, speaker, consultant, and advisor. As a teacher with the Duke University Nonprofit Management Program, Jeanne regularly leads classes on succession planning, strategic planning, and, of course, board and volunteer management. Jeanne is also a Newswire Contributor for Nonprofit Quarterly, and a member of the Editorial Board of the Nonprofit Technology Network’s magazine Change. Hailing from the Triangle Region of North Carolina, Jeanne is an active leader with the nonprofit tech group NCTech 4 Good.
