Barnhill & Roc Solid Foundation Deliver Joy To Local Child

At the Outer Banks Community Foundation, part of our mission is to inspire generosity wherever we encounter it. Earlier this month, we witnessed an incredible act of kindness and community spirit, and we couldn’t be more excited to share this story with you.
Our friends at Barnhill Contracting Company invited us to a special event supporting a brave young boy from Kill Devil Hills named Henry. Diagnosed with cancer at two years old, Henry and his family have faced unimaginable challenges on their journey. But thanks to Barnhill and their philanthropic partner, Roc Solid Foundation, hope and joy were recently delivered in the form of a backyard playset designed just for Henry.

Roc Solid Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building hope for kids and families fighting pediatric cancer. One of their signature programs provides playsets to children battling cancer, giving them a safe place to play and just be kids. Last week, representatives from Roc Solid and Barnhill came together to construct a beautiful new playset for Henry, whose cancer is currently in remission.
“We’ve done several of these builds with Roc Solid over the last few years—they are a great organization,” said Matt Turner of Barnhill on the day of the build. “Barnhill is all about giving back and supporting the communities that we work with. This is a great cause—supporting children who are fighting cancer. It’s a chance for us to share love and hope.”

Matt even brought his young son, Levi, to help with the project. “It’s a good opportunity for him to help other kids and have a chance to give back himself and serve others,” Matt shared.
This touching story is just one example of how Barnhill Contracting Company’s commitment to the Outer Banks goes beyond their work on major construction projects like improving Highway 158 and building the new Manteo Youth Center. Their long history of charitable initiatives demonstrates their dedication to uplifting the communities they serve.
