Help Us Be Prepared – Join The Trusted Partner Program

We are incredibly grateful to report that the Outer Banks was extremely fortunate and did not sustain significant damage from Hurricane Erin!

Hwy 12 South on Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island experienced ocean overwash and dune breaches caused by the hurricane, and both of those islands are currently closed while NCDOT works tirelessly to get the roads back open.

While Hurricane Erin stayed just far enough offshore for the Outer Banks to avoid major destruction, we wanted to let you know that the Outer Banks Community Foundation remains prepared to initiate immediate disaster recovery fundraising. Thanks to our partnerships with Dare and Hyde County officials, we receive timely, accurate updates on damage and unmet needs that go beyond local response efforts. The Community Foundation’s team works with public officials to ensure we are prepared with reliable information. Additionally, we have grantmaking agreements in place with a network of three nonprofit recovery groups: Interfaith Community Outreach, Cape Hatteras United Methodist Men, and Ocracoke Interfaith Relief and Recovery Team.

With your support through the Community Foundation’s Trusted Partner Program, we are always prepared to work with volunteer organizations active in disaster (VOADs) to provide rapid response disaster support to our neighbors throughout the Outer Banks. By being a part of the Trusted Partner Program, you and your business can play a vital role in disaster recovery. When you sign up online at OBCF.org/trusted for our Trusted Partner Program, you are agreeing to help us tell people how they can donate to our Disaster Recovery Fund and spread the word on how our neighbors in need can apply for disaster recovery funding through our network of nonprofit groups. We will supply you with easy to share information to do this.

To sign up to be a part of our Trusted Partner Program, please visit OBCF.org/trusted. We will only contact you when there is an urgent need for your assistance in our community. Again, we are very grateful that this was not needed for Hurricane Erin, but please join us in being prepared to help our community.
