OBCF 101-1: The 5 Ws of the Outer Banks Community Foundation

In an effort to better connect with our community and educate people about all of the unique facets of the Community Foundation, we have created OBCF 101.
Our hope is that OBCF 101 will deliver important information about the Community Foundation that enables more members of our community to learn about what we do and how it benefits the Outer Banks.
So, let’s get started! And, let’s start with the basics!
OBCF 101-1: The 5 Ws of the Outer Banks Community Foundation

Who: The Outer Banks Community Foundation is a nonprofit governed by a Board of Directors, and has active staff members who work directly with the Board and the community to accomplish their mission.
What: The Outer Banks Community Foundation helps meet local needs across Dare County and the entire Outer Banks, from Corolla to Ocracoke Island. We manage charitable funds for individuals and agencies, and we target grants and scholarships toward our community’s most pressing needs and promising opportunities.
Where: The Community Foundation’s office is located at 704 S Hwy 64/264 on Roanoke Island. The office is open from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday.
When: The Outer Banks Community Foundation was founded in 1982 by David Stick, local author and historian, and six other Outer Banks citizens: Jack Adams, George Crocker, Edward Greene, Andy Griffith, Martin Kellogg, and Ray White.
Why: Through the Outer Banks Community Foundation, people who love and appreciate the Outer Banks are able to give something back to the community to help meet the pressing needs of today, while at the same time building a source of support for the future.
