OBCF 101-5: What’s The David Stick Legacy Society?

David Stick.
In an effort to better connect with our community and educate people about all of the unique facets of the Community Foundation, we have created OBCF 101.
Have you heard of the David Stick Legacy Society? If not, you’re in luck because this week we are going to tell you what The Legacy Society is, who is a part of it, and how you can join.
What Is the David Stick Legacy Society?
The David Stick Legacy Society recognizes individuals who have named the Outer Banks Community Foundation as the beneficiary in a will, trust, insurance policy, retirement account, or other type of deferred or planned gift. The society is named after David Stick (pictured), the venerable man with the vision of establishing the Community Foundation in 1982.
Who Is A Part Of It?
Our 150+ Legacy Society Members are people who care about the long-term future of our community. Anyone who has remembered the Community Foundation through a will, trust, or other planned gift is part of the David Stick Legacy Society. There is no minimum or maximum amount for your planned gift. Legacy members can designate their estate gifts for scholarships, for a specific organization, or for a type of charitable cause (e.g., children, the arts, the environment, etc).
Do I Have to Be Wealthy To Join?
No — we welcome planned gifts of any size! You don’t need a will or a complex estate plan to make a lasting impact. For example, you can simply name the Outer Banks Community Foundation as a beneficiary for a portion of your retirement account. You could also add us to a life insurance policy or pledge land, stocks, or other assets for a future gift. Every contribution, big or small, helps strengthen our community’s future and proves that meaningful giving is within reach for everyone.
