Flat Top Tour Success

A perfect Outer Banks day greeted over 1,000 people who participated in the Southern Shores Historic Flat Top Tour at the end of April.

The tour featured 14 Southern Shores flat top homes, which highlight the historic architecture by beloved Outer Banks artist and developer Frank Stick. The flat top homes’ design is reminiscent of simpler times featuring flat top roofs, beach sand-and-mortar building blocks, and extended overhangs.

This year’s tour raised over $10,000 for the Outer Banks Community Foundation’s Flat Top Preservation Fund, which provides funds for the preservation and maintenance of the historic flat top located at 13 Skyline Road. This flat top home was built by Frank Stick in 1953 and is now owned by the Town of Southern Shores.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the tour and supported this wonderful event, and thank you to the Southern Shores Historic Flat Top Cottage Owners Network for organizing the tour and donating funds to help grow the Flat Top Preservation Fund. We would also like to extend gratitude to Steamers, Southern Shores Pizza, Boulevard Ice Cream, Sojourn OBX Boutique, and Shore Coffee Roasters who donated a portion of their sales the day of the tour to the fund.
