Kill Devil Hills Ice Cream Social To Support The Wallace H. McCown Scholarship Fund
The Town of Kill Devil Hills is hosting their annual Ice Cream Social event at Aviation Park from 4:30pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday, September 24. The free community event will have hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, drinks, treats for dogs, live music, and ice cream.
This year, the town’s staff decided to add a new element to the event – a baked goods sale! All proceeds from the baked goods sale will go to the Wallace H. McCown Scholarship Fund, which is managed by the Outer Banks Community Foundation.
The Wallace H. McCown Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 by the Town of Kill Devil Hills to honor Wallace McCown’s commitment to education and community. His dedication to public service as the town attorney for nearly half a century and his contributions to the Outer Banks Community Foundation’s Board of Directors inspire this merit-based scholarship. His children, Linda and Buddy McCown, who serve as advisors to the scholarship, have been actively supporting it since its inception.
The Wallace H. McCown Memorial Scholarship is a testament to Wallace McCown’s unwavering dedication to community enrichment. It celebrates Dare County high school seniors who exhibit academic excellence and plan to pursue full-time studies at a public college or university in North Carolina. Since 1998, this scholarship has awarded a total of $50,300 to 36 local students. Below are the recipient’s names in chronological order:
