Dare County Youth Orchestra Takes Center Stage

On February 15, the Dare County Youth Orchestra (DCYO) took center stage at First Flight High School for All County Orchestra Day, enchanting the audience with a concert featuring talented student musicians from our diverse community.

This special event was supported by a Community Enrichment grant from the Outer Banks Community Foundation. The grant allowed DCYO to expand its reach, providing its musicians with more violas, cellos, and basses.

The concert was a testament to the success of DCYO, and their recent growth.  The program has grown across the Outer Banks – the size of the Manteo Middle School Strings Program has nearly tripled this year. Despite the challenges posed by limited instruments and the aftermath of COVID on music programs, DCYO continues to thrive.

Dare County Youth Orchestra is a dynamic musical organization dedicated to nurturing and showcasing the talents of student musicians from diverse backgrounds, fostering a love for music within the community. A collaborative spirit is a big part of DCYO, with Dare County Schools providing essential resources, including classroom space, teachers, and auditoriums.
