How You Can Support After Prom

Every spring Dare County high school students look forward to a special event called After Prom, which will be held on Saturday, April 20 this year.
A fun-filled evening with food, music, bowling, laser tag, roller skating, and the opportunity to win over $20,000 worth of prizes is what is in store for students who attend After Prom. The prizes include scholarships, dorm packages, computers, bikes, gift certificates, and more!
The Outer Banks Community Foundation supports the event with the OBX Scholars After Prom Award, which is a $1,000.00 non-renewable scholarship that will go to a graduating senior who attends After Prom.
This scholarship is through the Community Foundation’s OBX Scholar Fund, which was established in 2016 to provide scholarships to Dare County and Ocracoke students of all backgrounds, interests, and academic goals to attend the college of their dreams. The OBX Scholars Fund is a community wide resource that provides amazing scholarships to our seniors. The funds are pooled from people of all donating abilities that want to contribute to our students’ success. Not only is After Prom a safe way for students to celebrate and have fun after their formal prom at school, it is also completely free for them to attend.
The After Prom committee is still in need of donations to make this year’s After Prom spectacular!
“This event has always been successful,” said After Prom committee member and Dare County Health & Human Services Supervisor Leigh Brinkley. “We are hoping for the same again this year. However, funds have been a little slow thus far. We typically need approximately $20,000-$25,000 to fully fund the event at no cost to the students. We still need approximately $10,000 and we are looking for someone to partner with Kelly’s Auto to help us give away a car! That commitment would be for roughly $3,000-$5,000.”
